5 out of 5 stars Excellent camera   May 3, 2008

This is the best camera I've ever had. I've been a professional photographer for about 30 years, and favored Canon EOS cameras since the days of film, and currently have a Canon digital G3, EOS 30D, and now this - and they don't disappoint me.

I say it's the best for more reasons than I can list, but mainly because it's reliable and versatile - shooting from very close up to longer than most elphs. And reliable in finding the right focus and exposure.

Although the image can be noisy at high ISOs, I find the noise pattern beautiful, and welcome it for my fine art work.

The panorama works well.

Especially convenient is that you can freeze the viewing of the just-shot picture, and then inspect it closely or delete it - without changing to review mode (ie, while still in shooting mode) - which makes experimenting very easy and fast.

It (usually) efficiently and quickly finds the right focus, has a wonderful white balance feature by programming it onto the print button, and is as intelligently designed as I've found all Canon cameras.

I highly recommend this for amateurs or professionals.

5 out of 5 stars Canon PS 850 IS is a great little camera   April 29, 2008

Canon PowerShot SD850 IS 8.0 MP Digital Elph Camera with 4x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom
For a really tiny camera, this has remarkable capability. Have only had it for a month or so, but results are excellent so far. It has many functions with which I need to become familiar, but if you just put it on "auto" you can fire away without knowing all there is to know. The flash, although limited, is stronger than I expected. The screen is quite bright and the brightness can be bumped up if needed when in bright daylight.

However, one reason I got the 850 instead of one of the next models to come out is because it has a viewfinder. It is a pleasure to be relieved of all the many pounds of Nikon cameras, lenses, and film that I used to carry on trips. I find that this and my other pocketable digital camera (Kodak 7630)are quite capable to get the results I want. The greatest limitation is the lack of very wide angle. Telephoto is pretty good with equivalant to 140mm, and with 8mp you can crop severely to get equivalent of much longer telephoto. So far, I've been very pleased with the camera.

If I wanna buy SD850IS from Amazon, Does it include the battery and charger? and Could the Kingston 2GB Secure Digital Memory Card be used for SD850IS? thanks.

I really like this camera, it takes really great pictures yet my older version, the SD 550 takes pictures better than this one! Overall, great though!
