Good except for the clip October 19, 2004 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Small, easy to use, accurate enough, but the clip is very, very easy to knock off. I have dropped it several times, and finally sent it flying into a bucket of water. It may recover when dry (or may not), but I would like a much better fastening mechanism.
Almost ideal July 11, 2004 28 out of 28 found this review helpful
I bought this particular pedometer on the recommendation of a previous Amazon reviewer, and in general have been quite pleased. The clip is excellent, the size is perfect, and it is unobstrusive and simple to use. The accuracy is sometimes frighteningly accurate, but I find it varies significantly depending on where exactly it is clipped, and the precise geometry relative to the body. This is not the fault of this particular pedometer, but the design of almost all pedometers. I find it most helpful to have the pedometer as close as possible to the hips and almost directly over the quadricep muscle. In general the accuracy has been in the 1-5% range. When simply walking at a constant rate, it has been within 0.1% of my manual count. Like all pedometers, jostling and non-specific up/down motions can lead to extra steps being counted. There is a sensitivity adjustment, but it is not particularly customizable and even on the least sensitive setting, is still too sensitive for my range of motions. My one large complaint is that on several occasions, the actual mechanism has gotten stuck resulting in no steps being counted. Shaking the pedometer gently usually loosens the mechanism and it behaves again, but I now find myself constantly jiggling it to make sure it is still counting. This is the only thing that stops me from giving the pedometer a 5 star rating, and may not be a problem with your pedometer. In that case, it is easily a 5 star instrument. Regardless, it is hard to argue with the price and this is a nifty and fun device
Slim, Sleek, Sturdy, Silent May 22, 2004 35 out of 35 found this review helpful
The Omron HJ-105 Pedometer is Slim, Sleek, Sturdy, and Silent. It is slender, fitting smoothly against your body. It can be worn almost unnoticeably under your outer clothing. This pedometer is nearly silent; much quieter than the other two pedometers I own. It probably has a noise dampener in it. The belt hinge and face swivel is studier than other pedometers. My Sportline broke within the first week.
best so far May 2, 2004 61 out of 62 found this review helpful
I have tried a variety of pedometers - in terms of features and design and price this is easily the best - I particularly like the aerobic minutes feature and the belt clip design - I went thru several other pedometers where the clip broke after a few months - this one is a spring clip that seems more reliable. It has seven day memory for all values, calorie counter, sensitivity setting - more features for less money. I have used it for a couple months so far and have no complaints.
Inexpensive marvel March 16, 2004 43 out of 47 found this review helpful
The Omron HJ-105 Pedometer is a marvel of modern technology. Once properly set and calibrated, it will give you accurate readings for your steps, aerobic steps, calories and miles on a daily basis with a seven-day memory. It is easy to set, simple to read and not encumbered by unnecessary features. True, this is a basic model, but I certainly don't mind paying a small sum for an instrument devoid of frills but which does the job. I simply do not need the pedometer to "talk" to me for an additional 20 or 30 bucks. If you're looking for an honest, well-made and designed pedometer, this one may be just right for you.
