1 out of 5 stars Not to be trusted   July 24, 2008
First drive recieved was defective out of the box.

Replacement failed in only a few months with 147 Gigs of irreplacable baby pictures, tax documents and all my music.

Same mode of failure described in other one star review. Buzz..Buzz.

iOmega data recovery services Quote:

The drive was found to have problems internal to the spindle motor assembly (bearing seizure/failure). The unit was opened in our clean room to examine the unit for platter assembly transplant potential. The Technician has decided that attempting "transplant(s)" of the platter assembly may have potential for success. These are high-risk procedures used to access the device and retrieve data....

Fee If Data Required is Recovered: US $3500

Read: These drives will fail without warning.

I'll never buy another iOmega product. Buyer beware.

4 out of 5 stars Great Drive For the Price   July 18, 2008
I bought this drive to replace a dying Western Digital 500GB drive. This drive was less expensive, larger capacity, smaller "footprint", and much less noisy than the MyBook drive.

My only negitive observation is that it does seem to get fairly hot.

Recommended!

Unlike the Western Digital USB drive purchased a year earlier, this drive failed completely in less than 4 months. Worked perfect every day until it failed in the middle of the night on July 4, 2008. Now there is no spin up, just a buzz......buzz.......buzz........ This won't happen to everybody but in all the dozens of drives I have bought since 1989, this is the only one that failed after 4 months.

5 out of 5 stars IOMEGA HAS BEEN AROUND LONG ENOUGH FOR ME TO REALLY TRUST THEM   June 3, 2008

I can show you all of my old Iomega Zip Drive discs and drive. from ten years ago because they still work. State of the art at that time " OOOH Mega bites " I bought this drive to replace a failed "Eastern Analog" 500 gb hard drive that I'm still intermitently putting into the freezer for hours trying to recover the 300+ gbs of data I don't want to loose.
I should have trusted Iomega up front. I tried to save a little money but it's going to cost me double now.

Enough griping. My point is BUY A TRUSTED NAME !!!. My eMachines c6535 instantly recognized my new Iomega 750gb and it has been happy to store what files I have been able to recover from my half dead "other Hard Drive".

4 out of 5 stars Iomega 750 GB Hard Drive   April 27, 2008

I am very pleased with this item. It took 3 weeks before I found the time to install it as a replacement for an older 375 GB drive that died. When I first installed the 750 GB drive on my desktop PC, I thought the new drive was not working properly. I had some problems copying approximately 40GB from the desktop to the new 750 GB drive. The new drive would simply turn off when I tried to copy folders more than about 10GB at a time (video files). But, I had been having problems with the desktop, and suspected the problem may not be with the new drive. I moved the connection for the new drive to my laptop. It has been connected to the laptop for the last five days, functioning flawlessly. It was very easy to install and appears to be working well.
