Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18S August 11, 2008 Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18S 8.1MP Digital Camera with 18x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver)Works great. Software supplied is adequate, Gimp or Photoshop makes a much better companion. Photos are a great improvement over my previous digital camera and it is able to accept lens attachments that were not available for my previous equipment. Thanks again for great service and quality in the merchandise.
Great camera, love the zoom and the pictures but... August 8, 2008 This camera takes amazing quality photos. A great value. Only thing I would do differently is purchase a 48 mm clear uv lens which will screw into the existing lens and give you protection from scratches. The stock lens cover will fit on top. When I purchased this camera, I also purchased thePanasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18K & DMC-FZ18S Digital Camera HD Professional Digital Accessory Kit and it is way too complicated and bulky. All the lenses and stuff do not fit in the bag.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18S August 5, 2008 This is my first digital camera but I had years of experience with Nikon and Pentax SLRs. This camera is literally amazing - in automatic mode it is so good it discourages you from trying manual. Low light, rainy day, it does not matter - the pix come out sharp and clean with excellent color balance. I have taken fireworks at night without a flash in auto mode by sticking my hand out an apartment window (no tripod), and they all came out sharp - try that in manual or with an SLR. That experience also proves the value of the automatic "anti-shake" feature - it works. The guide on the screen is intuitive and (after some reading on what the symbols mean, because there are a lot of options), it is easy enough to manipulate. The tiny little joystiock control is a bit frustrating if you have large fingers, but a bit of practice and it will get easier. I am sold on Panasonic also for the user-friendly way they think through the product design - Canon designers, by contrast, seem to be evil trolls intent on torturing humans. I bought an 8K card to go with it - over 2,000 shots in jpeg mode! Worth the considerable bucks if you are not going to clean the thing up regularly or are on a long trip and wish to shoot a lot. In short, it is difficult to take a bad picture. For the price, I think it is the best on the market (or was - the K may be even better). Go Panasonic! Now, if I could only figure out how to use Adobe PhotoShop......
Lumix Digital Camera August 4, 2008 My family and I recently took a cruise to Alaska up the Inside Channel. The pictures we took were awesome, and the ease with which the camera did most of the work was incredible!
Exellent Camera & price August 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you are not a professional, don't waste your money on DSLR. This camera will do every thing for you! The Leica Lens is excellent. The wide selection of Scene choices give plenty of opportunities for experimentation. yet the camera can be used as point and shoot by a beginner.
