Not Perfect, but Close June 9, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Bluetooth For me, it only works ocasionally. It doesn't see to play well with my Treo. I think the problem is more with the Treo than it is with the Nuvi.
Traffic I find it only about 20% accurate. More often than not, it tells me there is a delay, when there isn't. If I were to "avoid" these false alerts, it would cost me more time, rather than save it. I will not be paying for the subscription.
Routing I'd say that it's generally very good. One thing I could live without is when you are on a highway/freeway/interstate, and the next turn is to keep going on the current highway/freeway/interstate. It's like saying, "turn strait," and is mildly annoying. I would prefer if it only told me when I had an actual change of course to make.
FM Transmitter This one is a toss-up. Sometimes it seems to work very well, but as you travel over long distances, you have to find new stations to broadcast to. It's virtually useless in dense urban areas (Los Angeles, Seattle), but works better in the adjacent suburban areas.
MP3 Player I loaded up an SD card with a bunch of music. Keeping in mind that it's primarily a GPS and not primarily an MP3 player, it's not bad.
Sound Quality The built-in speaker leaves a lot to be desired, overall, but how high can you expectations be on a unit that's as thin as the Nuvi 760 is? If you are able to utilize the FM Transmitter, it's a non issue.
Points of Interest These are generally very good, but some shops are not to intuitive to search for. I tried to search for bike shops, but there wasn't really a category for that, so the search just kept on searching. Most general searches are very useful, however, such as gas stations, banks, dining establishments, etc. The thing that's nice here is you can add or even import custom POI's. There are web sites out there that list, for example, all Costco stores, or Walmarts, or RV Parks... you name it. One that's especially useful are Red Light Cameras or Speed cameras where you get a proximity alert, even if you aren't "looking" for hte camera. Most camera warnings are subscription based, but there are free one's out there. I traveled to Portland, and was warned about 4 lights I wouldn't have otherwise known about. Just Google POI or link from Garmin's web site.
Garmin nüvi 760 Portable GPS Automobile Navigator June 7, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The unit arrived on Tue, I tried it out within the greater Milwaukee, WI area traveling to and from work and other locations a couple of days. On Friday I traveled 260 miles to northern WI to a remote lake cottage location. Then on Saturday traveled 60 miles to a separate remote lake cottage location for my daughter's wedding.
In all cases it located the addresses I input without diffculty, even though 2 were well off the beaten path in the forests of northern WI. I had the unit sitting on the center console of my vehicle, behind the gear shift using a friction mount, rather than the dashboard or windshield. It acquired satellites and operated without difficulty.
In northern WI, on several instances it, gave me directions to turn on roads that I would not normally have used. However, it quickly recalculates a revised route after ignoring turn directions. After 3 times ignoring turn directions, while traveling the same route, it appeared to "learn" the preferrd route and began giving directions for the route as I normally drive it.
In a couple of cases the second command to "turn" on a remote country road came as we were right at the intersection. This could cause a missed turn if the first command was missed. However, overall I am very impressed with the performance of this unit.
I travel for business and I'm looking forward to using it on business trips to reduce the lost time looking for locations in places I've never been to. I certainly recommend this unit.

This is n excellent product. I have used it to go to a number of locations and am amazed as to the accuacy, even to the bends in the super highways. The added features are worth the difference in price from lower models. I would strongly recommend, voice directions are clear and concise. They are given about 1/2 mile before change in direction to alert you and then as you should be changing direction.
Can't say enough good stuff.
Nuvi 760 Rocks! June 5, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
After using the nuvi 760 for about a month, it's clear that this is best nuvi yet. It has a nice bright screen, good Bluetooth integration, and really, really handy "Where Am I?" feature with pointers to nearby gas, hospitals, and police. I think that all of this combined with Garmin's spot-on routing makes the nuvi 760 an excellent choice for anybody in the market for a portable GPS unit.
Perfect For Vacation June 5, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
We bought this nuvi the day before our two week, travel-by-car vacation in several states that we've never been to before. It worked great. A couple of times, in large cities (DC, NYC) it got a little lost in the directions and had us trying to turn left where we couldn't, but the rest of the time it worked great. We used it to find restaurants, hotels, gas - always worked great. The only complaint with it is that if you search for a restaurant by name ("spell" feature) and it isn't in the database, it never comes back to tell you it can't find it - it just keeps looking! But, overall, a very capable and useful GPS. I think we used every feature, including the "where am I" feature so we could find our car in parking lots.
