garmin 760 July 22, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
the 760 is a very good gps. hands free phone works great, directions work great, and the bean bag mount is a must have. the only reason i dont give it five stars. is the map, (i down loaded the new 2009 map).my home street is not in the garmin, the street has been there 6 yrs. ok maybe its too new. i put in food/pizza, 1 mile away from Luigi's pizza. doesn't bring it up. i figure, too new, oops wrong, been there 18 yrs. my friend has a nav system in his car. knows all the streets, and stores. i thought these gps got their maps from the same place? next time i buy a new car, i get the navigation pkg.
My First GPS - Garmin Nuvi 760 July 22, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
After reading many of the reviews I decided on the Garmin Nuvi 760 for my first GPS. I couldn't be happier. The unit was very easy to set up, the operation was flawless from the get-go. The screen is clear and easy to see the text, hear the voice and navigate to practically anywhere. Since I haven't owned any other GPS systems it is impossible for me to compare but I am very happy with this purchase. I would advise anyone to spend the extra money and go with this unit, you'll like it too ! One other thing, get the Garmin mounting unit for about $25, you will be extremely happy with that also.
Easy to use, does what it needs to July 21, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
After reading R. Epstein's bad review I had second thoughts but am very glad I didn't let it keep me from ordering the Garmin. It is the first GPS I have owned/used and I couldn't be happier with it. The first trip I used it on was a trip from Salt Lake, Utah to Syracuse, NY. Following directions could not have been easier! (I actually forgot to take my maps and my AAA triptix so I had to completely rely on the GPS) The interface is VERY intuitive. I love you can use it to find restaurants, gas, parks, hotels, hospitals. It is kind of like carrying a phone-book for every town you travel through. I had a tire blow out in Lincoln Nebraska and I used it to find a local Firestone tire store. I won't be taking any long trips without it.
Excellent ! July 20, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Have owned it for more than a month now, and I just love it. Giving it 4 stars, instead of 5, coz there are still a few things that could be improved upon. Having said that, I just love this unit, and am glad that I shelled out a few extra bucks to get this one (even though there were cheaper models that I could have gone for).
Pros - - Wide screen - Most of the times detects satellite really quickly. I have owned nuvi 350 before this, and I can see the difference. - Very easy to set up. - for me, the qwerty keyboard is very useful.
Cons- - On rare occasions, it would take minutes to detect satellites. It's happened a couple of times only since I bought it. - If you turn on the FM receiver, you lose the text-to-speech functionality. Essentially, it's on mute.
Worse than the 660 July 20, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I've used both the 660/650 and 760/750 and IMO Garmin has been cutting corners developing the 7XX. The 660 is superior to the 760 because:
- 660 comes with more accessories like case and AC adapter - GPS receiver not as sensitive as the 660. The 660 would literally take 5 secs to get a fix, while the 760 usually ranges from 5 secs to 5 minutes. It's not very consistent - Really poor speaker compared to the 6XX series. Garmin really cheapened out putting such a poor sounding speaker in the 7XX series. - The 760 freezes around once a week! Usually it happens when I search for a POI, enter an address or try to add a new route under multirouting. The 660/650 that I've had NEVER froze during the 1 year that I used them - BAD routing. This is really the deal breaker for me. I've used both the 2008 and 2009 maps and the 760 gives me really bad routes sometimes here in LA. The 660 gives much more efficient routes. It sounds crazy, but its true. - BT interface is well done, but the sound quality of the speaker is horrible, so its almost impossible to understand the other party.
I really wanted to like the 760 as it has nicer graphics, multirouting, QWERTY, and history of cities. However, I plan to return my 760 and get a 650 instead.
