5 out of 5 stars You will be happy with the nuvi 760   June 18, 2008

My wife and I purchased this system from Amazon, and we are very pleased with it. The graphics are great, as is the functionality of the unit. I am very happy with the routing/directions that we seem to be consistently receiving from it, as this was a concern from other reviews I stumbled across. The traffic avoidance feature seems to work quite well, as this unit came with the traffic receiver and free 90 day trial. The only thing that does seem to be consistent with some of the reviews that I have read is that the FM transmitter does seem to be a bit weak.
There are times when it will come in clear as a bell through my stereo, but other times it struggles to find a station that works well. This has not been that big of a deal with me, as I am so very pleased with all other functions of the unit. If it were stolen, I would order one from Amazon again without a second thought.

The unit has flaws when it comes to battery life, I have lower the screen lighting to 50%, yet battery still does not hold up as to specification given; 5 hours luckily if you get an hour or so. Calculating re-routing I give it a fifty fifty, sometimes performs well. Using the unit as to pedestrian setting, lousy I just spend 4 days in Washington DC and I was lost, the unit did not give the correct directions and when you are walking it just provided me a walking exercise which is not what I would recommend to anyone. However, allot of bells and whittles but no battery life's makes them obsolete. In conclusion it still the best unit compare to what is the market today. Price is high, but if you shop you can purchase about $350.00.

3 out of 5 stars Great GPS, a bit sluggish and poor customer support   June 16, 2008

All the great reviews convinced me to buy this GPS. Overall I am very happy with it and all the great features. You can read all the great reviews and, other than being a little sluggish and the telephone function is hard to hear and does not always answer when someone calls, I agree with the reviews. My BIG problem is with customer service, lack of an informative owners manual, and a poor, poor, user-unfriendly web site that does not work half of the time. I tried to register my new Nuvi 760 and got a message that it was already registered by someone else. I tried to search the FAQ to find out what kind of memory card I should buy and could not find any information. Also there is some kind of service that will help you navigate around bad traffic but I could not find anything on how to use it or what I need to do to activate it. I think there is someway to update your maps, my 760 came with a 2007 map date, but I can't find any thing to tell me how or am not sure if there really is a way to do it. I tried to call customer service and kept getting the busy signal. When I did get the phone to ring, I was advised that all support people were busy and there was a 30+ minute wait. What good are all these great features if you can't find any info on how to use them. Until Garmin gets their act together I would recommend you hold off buying any Garmin product. Check out their web site at www.garmin.com and see for yourself.

5 out of 5 stars Good GPS unit   June 16, 2008

I bought this for my wife's car. She has been using my StreetPilot 2620 but complained that the menu options were too complicated. She likes the Nuvi 760 a lot. The suction cup mount works great (she mounted the included flat suction plate on her dash), the chip is faster than the StreetPilot, the screen is bright, the unit gets her where she wants to go. Among the liked features (her) - "where am I" option, small size (fits in purse), stays put on the dash when she drives, simple menus. My comparison to my StreetPilot - quicker redraw, brighter screen (or may just appear so since it has a white background and the StreetPilot has a yellow background). I like the fact that the Nuvi has a battery and can go with you when you walk in town and find where you left the car. I prefer the greater number of options on the StreetPilot (new location, detailed map formats, tabs on the display), but she likes the simplicity of the Nuvi. At the Amazon price of about $360, this was a great buy. Works well in Bluetooth with my Blackberry. And, the maps are up-to-date out of the box.
