Product great, concern about the purchase process June 25, 2008 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
Amazon invited me to review the product and I will, along with some comments about the purchasing experience. I love the product. Comments about the purchasing experience. Maybe I am too greedy. I purchased the GPS on the Amazon site, but it was directed to Beach Camera. The item was received on time, in good condition. My issue, maybe an incorrect one, is that in the past when I have purchased electronic items and the price goes down within 30 days the seller will match their lower price and even competitors. Well, the price did go down and I wanted to get the reduced price, I foolishly suggested I would return the item,( as allowed during the timeframe) and immediately re-buy it at the lower price. Again, most stores I've dealt with will lower the price without having to return the item. Well, I was directed to return the item with all appropriate packaging, ship it prepaid, with a 10% restocing charge. This, I believe is to prevent the issuing of a lower price by making it so inconvenient and expensive to return. Anyway, I swallowed the price rather than go through that hassle. However, in the future I will think seriously about online buying from Amazon and deal with people face to face who will honor lower prices within a 30 day period. Once more, the product is great.
Love my 760 June 25, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought the 760 for a cross-country road trip between California and Chicago for myself and my son. We used it for everything and it was amazing! It directed us to every hotel we booked and every restaurant we chose. It kept track of our drive times, kept us aware of the speed limit of the roads we were on and gave us plenty of time to be prepared for upcoming turns, even with the voice turned off. I LOVE it.
Hey Garmin - Read my Review! June 24, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I cannot add much more to the other Reviewers. This is great GPS. But, I HATE how the search returns characters from the middle or end of results.
I'm looking for Applebees, - and I type in:
APP
and Find - in order of the distance ... hAPPy panda hAPPy china snAPPle distribution stopgAP Performance and many, many other business with 'app' ANYWHERE in their name and names.
I SWEAR to you, Garmin, NO customer searches for the Middle or End of terms we are looking for.
Stick to paper maps! June 24, 2008 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
I purchased the Nuvi 760,after returning the 660 for its poor maps. The 760 came with 2008 maps, and Garmin would not let me download free 2009 maps.It seems the unit I bought had been activated 4 months earlier.I don't know if it is Garmin or Amazon sellig returned units as new,but no more Garmin products for me! I would not bet my life on the directions the 760 gave either. The nearest police were 5 towns away, same with hospitals. We have 2 police stations in this town, both over 25 years in the same location. Our hospital is 5 times the size of the nearest one the 760 gives! My 3 year old in-dash gps is twice as accurate!
Garmin GPS 760 June 21, 2008 0 out of 15 found this review helpful
Well I`ve wanted a GPS for an upcoming Alaska trip. I bought the Garmin because they been in the GPS business for quiet some time and from recommendations. Well after registering it on line witch seems to be the norm for anything you buy, pretty much there way of getting your personal information. Garmin registration process could sure use some tec. help. The problem I'm having is I'm only getting one bar on the satellite reception, and then within about a minute I lose that. Now I'm living about 15 miles from Sacramento CA. (Pretty dam flat.) I think the final straw was when I went to there web sight went to help section about the most round about way to get from A to B witch turned out be no help at all. (Not surprised) I did do an e-mail to the support an estimated 3 day wait. Well I think the bottom line is with anything electronic especially computer based always turns into hours on the internet or the phone to tec. Support, most cases both. One would think in this high tec. world you would just plug it in and be done. Even a low tec. toaster works like that. Well for me I'm going to return my Fathers days gift, buy a $5 dollar map no batteries required a nice Tommy Bahamas shirt no tec support just button and go. Myself I'm just tired of buying stuff that just comes with hours of frustration and I certainly don't need some ladies irritating voice to help me get lost.
