Great GPS June 10, 2008 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Great product. Works well with my iMac and quickly updated the latest software. The black face looks much better than the silver. No need for the AC charger, you can charge directly from your computer/laptop with the USB cable.
I live in Switzerland and the preloaded maps work fine. The POI could be better, but I'm sure they are good in the USA. Speed limits are accurately displayed on the freeways. I will also use it in the USA later this year and it's useful to plan your route before you arrive.
Very quick to pick up a signal.

Undoubtedly the worst piece of technology I have ever encountered. This seems to have been designed by the sort of techies who habitually refer to end users as "abusers". There is nothing about this POS that can be described as user-friendly. It is, of course, expensive. Out of the box, it simply does not work. Poor to non-existent documentation; extremely unhelpful online assistance; time consuming and very frustrating. From the product description, I was under the impression that all maps and software are pre-loaded. Not so - you have to go online and navigate a poorly designed website to update both. Even with a relatively fast DSL connection, this process consumes several hours. And then, IT STILL DOESN"T WORK. "Unable to unlock maps". "Unable to find device". Oh yeah - try calling customer service - hold times are at least 35-45 minutes. If patient or desperate enough, you may eventually speak to a very pleasant but not terribly knowledgeable young person who cannot diagnose your problem correctly. All in all, a terrific stock (GRMN) to SHORT - but not a very good product to buy. (Oh, and AMZN is no help either).

Great GPS. lots of extras that help, like the traffic update ( 3 months free ), MP3 player, etc. Great if planning a trip to Europe, just did and loved it.

I absolutely love this GPS. We just got back from vacation and it was very helpful. While traveling and you want to stop and eat, the database had all kinds of places, and it looked for places near where you are at the time. I also like the bluetooth telephone feature. You can use the voice dial feature to make your call hands free. It works great. The traffic alert is also a very cool feature. It lets you know if there are traffic problems ahead and you can see exactly what and where the problem is. I highly recommend this product.
Saved us in Sicily!!!! May 20, 2008 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
Bought the 770 for our just completed trip to Sicily.
First the good - Couldn't have found our way without the 770. It is almost impossible to find one's way in Sicily just reading street signs, if they exist at all. The 770's maps of Sicily were amazingly accurate and allowed us to follow the car icon on the route and instantly identify when we went off track. Using the 770 made it easy to get back to our route. The whole process was pretty easy and pretty accurate.
But there are some deficiencies - yes, the 770 can take a long time to locate the satellites, sometimes up to 20 or 30 minutes.
Some of the routes were impossible to follow - i.e., the 770 is unable to separate freeway frontage roads from the freeway and if the frontage road ends, it continues to route you on the freeway and there is no one-ramp. That can cause major back tracking. major frustration.
We purchased the Southern European Points of Interest SD. As far as Sicily is concerned, it is woefully under documented and hardly worth the money. Nothing much. A waste. Can't say anything about other regions in Southern Europe.
We also purchased the Bi-Lingual language SD. It was a bit of an extravagance, but got good usage in restaurants or reading signs on the go without the hastle of carrying another book. We considered it worth the money and it won't go out of date soon.
All in all, without the 770, our Sicilian trip would have been a real nightmare. We were on the road touring 5 or 6 out of 7 days a week and the 770 let us keep whatever sanity we had after contending with Sicilian motorists. Too bad the 770 couldn't do someting about them. LOL.
