Good dictation, but no rewind while recording September 10, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I use this just for dictation. I'm a lawyer.
I made the switch from micro cassettes. Sound quality is much improved (at least that's what my assistant tells me). Ease of use is good. You can dictate and plug it into your computer and transfer the file easily. The dictaphone actually separates in to two pieces, with a USB plug on the top half and battery compartment on the bottom. One odd thing here though, when I plug it in my monitor USB port the LED screen faces away from me.
There is an automatic naming of the file, but renaming on the computer can be done. The renamed file will display with the new name on the recorder.
It is small. While I don't have big hands, hitting the buttons, especially those on the side, takes some getting used to.
There is only major drawback. You can't rewind while recording. If you want to go back and hear what you just said, you need to stop the recording and hit play. The player then goes to the beginning of the dictation. Easy enough to fast forward. But, to start recording again, you need to press record. This triggers the creation of another file. You can't just start recording from where you left off and stay in the same file. The solution is to just create multiple files, if need be.
Tiny device packed with recording power and usability September 5, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I used to use the older OLYMPUS WS-300M until I gave that away to a pastor who wanted to use it to record a portion of the Bible in Navajo. He tried it, loved it, so I just gave it to him.
And then I bought this newer model. I didn't think it could get any better, but it did. The build seems a lot more durable (the USB part doesn't fall apart as easily) and I like the way the battery chamber is built now (the opening is along the length of the battery now).
It can be used as an MP3 player, a USB 2.0 plug n play flashdrive, and a crisp audio recorder. I've used it for all those functions. What more could I ask for? Highly recommended.
Great compact voice recorder September 5, 2008 I purchased the Olympus WS-311M to replay a digital RCA voice recorded purchased from Wal-Mart. I am a photo-journalist, so I need something dependable, which was NOT the RCA voice recorder. Though the RCA recorder had lots of features, they were not as easy to use as the Olympus recorder. And the storage capacity of the Olympus is great! I have downloaded lots of MP3 files and use it like an iPod. It's a breeze to download recorded messages into my laptop with the handy USB plug that is built in to the voice recorder (no wires to mess with!). I have been extremely pleased with this recorder. It's lightweight and fits conveniently into any pocket. Battery life has been long. I would highly recommend the Olympus WS-311M to anyone looking for a small, quality voice recorder/MP3 player.
Good Product. September 2, 2008
I brought the WS-311M Digital voice recorder for both work and school. For work, I travel a lot and work in conditions that it would be better to record my notes instead written them down on a piece of paper. For school, I use it for notes while reading my text book and also for lectures by the instructors.
I like my WS-311M Digital voice recorder because It gives me the best of both worlds: It is a voice recorder and an MP3 player. I like both functions because I use the recorder to take notes and the MP3 player I am able to entertain myself. The MP3 player comes in handy because I am going to school and some of the lectures have been pre-recorded as MP3s.
The recorder is compact and does not require an interface cable, which is a plus for being a road warrior like me. The USB interface is built into the device.
I really like the stereo capabilities of the sound. Most recorders do only record in mono and do not generate a dynamic sound during playback; however, the Olympus WS-311M can record and play in stereo.
Really good purchase! August 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It works pefectly. Any trouble in connecting with computer, like pendrive. Sound quality good enough for typical use. Small, nice, light and convenient.
