5 out of 5 stars Does the Job intended   June 11, 2008

I bought this simply to add storage to my Moxi DVR.

As soon as the Moxi upgraded to the latest software I hooked up the drive and the Moxi detected it and reformated it. after about 5 minutes the drive was correctly reported in the available storage screen and has been working fine ever since.

It does not seem hot or under any stress from being on 24/7.

One of the reasons this drive was chosen is that it does NOT have a sleep mode that the Moxi cannot deal with.

I have purchased two of this drives for Mac OSX Leopard's Time Machine. Easy to set up, runs quietly, great value. I recommend it.

3 out of 5 stars Lots of storage for the price   June 7, 2008

The price was the determining factor for my purchase. But this hard drive is not quiet and does not have an automatic turn on feature that I have had with other external hard drives. If it is plugged into my computer when I turn on my computer I still have to turn on the hard drive. If you plan on keeping the hard drive at a distance from your desktop then you should get a hard drive that automatically turns on and off with the computer. The firewire 400 does not have a noticable increase in speed compared to the USB and using the firewire 400 get my laptop temperature to increase, thus making my fans noisy. This is a good USB hard drive with lots of space. If you want to transfer large amount of data then I would get something with firewire 800 or something faster. This hard drive will do for the average person.

4 out of 5 stars Solid drive   June 4, 2008

I have owned this for about 3 months, use it as a time machine backup drive on a Mac connected through firewire. Not as quite as some other reviewers claim. Worked right out of the box, no issues so far. Aesthetics a plus.
