I purchased a Garmin GPS loaded with a 2007 map. I purchased the 2008 update map from Amazon and it arrived swiftly. When I installed the new 2008 map I could not notice any difference. The places that were not on the 2007 map were still not on the 2008 map. There should be some way to test to see if the new map has truly been updated before spending all that money. I feel ripped off by the supposedly "Updated" software as provided by Garmin. Amazon rates FIVE stars, Garmin update rates ONE!

My Nuvi prompted me to get a new database, and since the one that came with it, v.8, contained a sprinkling of errors pertaining to local roads I know well. I did so. Those I've come across since I updated are fixed; however, a journey through an unfamiliar part of the state revealed what may be new software quirks. If I get clearer about this, I'll try to post again.

I upgraded in hopes that I would see significantly newer roads and logical routes to my various destinations. No such luck. I do use it when I'm out of town but I'm sure I don't get as good of a route as the locals in a particular area. Some roads in our state have changed over 2 yrs ago and yet the new construction isn't up to date with this "2009" version (a misnomer for sure). Maybe I'll be surprised with the next upgrade in another 2-3 yrs. Wish there were some way of inputting info to Garmin's mapsources.
Not happy with Software update September 8, 2008
I have a Garmin Nuvi GPS and it has worked well until I installed this up-dated mapping software. I drove down to DC and Baltimore using my GPS and it got me down there. However, when I was going to Baltimore from DC, it was telling me to take 95 south rather than 95 north just to mention one problem. I ended up turning it off and following a friend who was originally following me. His Tom Tom seemed to work much better.
