5 out of 5 stars Just perfect better than the bose by far   October 9, 2008
Look im not one to mess with the best which i thought was Bose, after purchasing these headphones i realized how bad the bose ones actually were. Now i did own a pair of the bose headphones and they were great dont get me wrong but after they broke i looked around at some alternatives and let me tell you these panasonic head phones are the best headphones i have ever bought. Not only is the sound quality crystal clear but the noise canceling is unbelievable you cant hear a thing. Also the overall design is better for example they give you a cord that plugs into the headphones so if the connection gets bad all you have to do is reaplace the cord unlike the bose where as you have to purchase a entire new set. So dont buy into bose and buy these i promise you will love them.

4 out of 5 stars Well built, but not for me   October 7, 2008
These are the first noise canceling headphones I have tried and I was surprised at the limited the frequencies at which they work. These are extremely effective at canceling out low frequency noise. I tried them on a loud diesel engine and while I still heard every bit of the higher frequency noise from the engine, but the low frequency noise disappeared. I also tried them with running water and they did nothing at all, because the frequency of the noise was too high. I did not get a chance to try it on board a plane, but i imagine they would work fairly well in that circumstance since most of the engine noise is pretty low frequency.

I don't think this is particular to these headphones and these headphones seem to be very well constructed so that is why they merit 4 stars. They are also as comfortable as any over the ear headphone. The sound quality seemed fine. The headphones themselves without the noise canceling manage to block a lot of outside sound due to their good fit. The case these come with is very nice.

1 out of 5 stars Noise canceling sometimes makes noise   October 7, 2008
These headphones sound nice and are comfortable, but the noise canceling feature is flawed. It sometimes spontaneously starts to hum (as if it's stuck in a feedback loop), and you have to turn noise canceling off and back on again to get rid of it. This is annoying enough that I just use them as regular headphones, with the noise canceling always turned off.

5 out of 5 stars Best Buy for the money   October 6, 2008
I recently purchased these headphones for my wife who travels a good bit. I held off purchasing them for myself. On our last trip we were on a regional jet that was very noisy. My older NC headphones did not remove enough of the noise. I used the HC-500 and was so impressed that I ordered a pair for myself.

I am very satisfied with the HC500. My wife says that they are equal to or better than the more expensive Bose.

2 out of 5 stars expensive ear muffs   October 6, 2008
Liked the headphones for the first 120 days, but then one side quit working and the warranty is only 90 days... expensive ear muffs.
