Bad clusters galore October 21, 2007 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
I wish I had seen the price that Amazon was charging for this external hard drive, because I paid more than twice that amount at Best Buy just a couple months ago. But that's not the reason for my 2-star review.
Bad clusters are the reason for my 2-star review. Lots of them. I've run chkdsk on this drive three times, and all three times it found and supposedly fixed all the bad clusters (I'm up to something like 36 MEG worth of bad clusters now), but every time I copy new files to the drive, it seems like at least one or two of them get corrupted and require yet another chkdsk.
It's not like I'm subjecting the thing to unreasonable conditions. I mostly download audience recordings of concerts from sites like [...] and then store them on the portable hard drive so I can take it along to work and listen to them there. I transport the drive in a backpack pocket that is just the right size for it, has some padding to it and doesn't get bounced around much. At work, it sits on a wide-open desk with plenty of room for the ventilation fan holes. And yet when I go to listen to the music I downloaded, usually about 10% of the files will be unplayable due to bad sectors.
If I weren't so lazy, I'd have already taken it back to Best Buy and demanded my money back...
Backup, Short Again October 10, 2007 4 out of 23 found this review helpful
Once again Microsoft has failed the customer. Instead of backing up specific files by choice of the user, Microsoft assumes that we are all stupid. A proper backup in my opinion, would allow me to pick in detail the files that I want to pick. Instead, Microsoft makes that decision in a broad choice and then to make matters worse, backs up the files in code so that i cannot review them at will. This gives the customer only limited ability and control over those files. Whatever happened to making a mirror image that would make sense???????????
Mis-matched expectations September 9, 2007 0 out of 27 found this review helpful
I needed this product delivered before I left on vacatin on August 18. Your delivery estimate was very close to that date but the item did not arrive before ehe 18th so I bought a similar item locally. Normally, my purchases from Amazon arrive at the beginning of your time estimate; this time it did not. Usually, deliveries from Amazon are made via UPS ... this time it was USPS. The rating above is meaningless because I never used the item.
Super drive at a super price! September 8, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I had purchased a HP media center PC and I wanted to purchase a Personal Media Drive for it. This drive is perfect, it fits in a slot so no desk space is needed, it was a snap to put in and the price was lower than on HP's website!

This is a great product. Very convenient. Connects directly to compatible HP desktop computers and comes with connection cables to be used with others. Perfect size and price.
