| Customer Reviews:
A lot of features - FM is a waste September 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I like the features on it and the display size is nice. The user interface is very intuitive and really doesn't require instructions. It locks on to satellites very quickly and tracks them extremely well even in adverse conditions. I also like the MP3 player and slot for external SD cards. There are plenty of other features. I've had it for about a month now (took it on vacation) and I'm very happy with it.
I also took it on a flight across the country. Top speed was 584 mph and I could track our position from my window seat. I always look out the window and try to figure out where I am. Now I will know! The built in battery lasted about 4 hrs. Half of the time I had the back lighting off.
So, why not 5 stars? The FM transmitter is not useable! I've tried it in two cars and in my family room. Even with the Nuvi a foot or so from my indoor (active) antenna on my home stereo, the sound quality was very poor (fuzzy and noisy). Ten feet away it could barely be picked up. I was unable to find a spot in either car that would produce reasonable sound. Bummer!! I actually picked the 660 to get the FM transmitter capability. I read the other reviews that said the transmitter was poor, but I assumed folks were looking for very high quality sound and it was falling short. Nope, I'd call it non-functional and not worth Garmin's trouble (or the extra $$). I ended up buying a cassette adapter for the cars. It sounds great.
So far it has been pretty accurate, but not perfect. For example, it mis-locates one of our local fast food restaurants by 0.4 miles when using the built in database. I feel sure it's a database accuracy issue, not a GPS accuracy problem. In all other situations it has been dead on. When you miss a turn it recalculates instantly.
I recommend the 660, but don't pick it for the FM transmitter
Garmin Nuvi 660 August 31, 2008 Was apprehensive about buying a GPS....No longer.. We drive quite a lot for a part time job.....This Nuvi 660 might have been the best purchase we have made...Has gotten us out of a lot of trouble in big cities....You just have to trust it, Garmin has done a great job....Would recommend it to everyone..
Great product, great price August 31, 2008 I finally purchased a GPS after years of using online driving direction sites. The Garmin nuvi 660 is terrific - - the screen is wide enough to be seen easily even on a wide dashboard, the voiced directions are clear and easily understood, and the written directions usually tell not just how far away the next turn is, but the name of the turn or exit. The screen also shows the side streets as you approach and pass them. One drawback is that revised directions can take too long to recalculate, and it sometimes doesn't signal soon enough whether the next turn will be right or left, or which lane you should be in, a problem in a high-traffic area. Also, it's apparently not equipped with knowledge about which routes are closed to traffic or turns during certain times. All in all, would highly recommend.
A godsend for the directionally challenged. August 31, 2008 Thanks to my Garmin, I no longer have to tell my wife I'm not los, I'm just taking the "scenic" route. We've taken a couple trips now and I am happy to report that my Nuvi 660 took me right to my destination with no problems. I like the bluetooth feature. Having hands free cellphone service without one of thoose dorky looking and uncomfortable earpieces is really nice.
The 660 had all the features I needed at a really great price. I'd recommend it to anyone. I'm very happy with it.
super excellent August 31, 2008 By having this product it's like you program your own car to the destination that you wanna go,it's a worry free trip if you have Garmin Nuvi 660, where ever you go you'll get there on time.
