Gets me by, but far from accurate August 28, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I installed the 2009 map update the day before leaving for vacation. I stepped off the plane, punched in my first address and while in downtown Providence, RI, my Garmin showed me driving where there was no road; looks like the update didn't include changes made there in the last year or two. After a few frustrating wrong turns and a couple recalculations, it was back on track. It worked better the rest of the trip as far as roads go, but the points-of-interest data is still very out of date. I was in Oakland CA looking for a grocery store, and it took me to a long-abandoned Albertson's (the whole plaza had been closed for quite some time; signs removed, boarded up - good area for a drive-by). I guess I knew this going in based on other reviews, but my old maps were 2006, so I felt I couldn't keep waiting. I'll wait 2 more years and hopefully the 2011 will do better.
Update Necessary August 27, 2008 I updated the Nuvi 670 which I've had a little over a year. The update, both software (from Web site) and from the purchase of the '09 update went well. There were new addresses that are now included and there are 2 bridges in DC (the Wilson) now included. 95 N toward Washington still says exit on the right, which is incorrect, but overall in the North East states improvements were made. I also used the 670 in Ireland and found the data dated, but the GPS did get us to our destinations - not sure how to update Europe.
Disappointing! August 27, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I recently bought an software update to Garmin's GPS for its product, Nuvi.
This 2009 Software update (I had the 2008 Software) did not have major roads (Interstates) that have been open since before 2008. I was disappointed that this was the case and think the money was not well spent.

I've had my Garmin 330 for over a year with no problems other than the occasional new routing of roads or (my biggest complaint) points of interests not being there. Checking the map version I realized it was loaded with 2006 maps so I was hoping the 2009 maps would be an improvement.
Well, no problems updating and loading the the new version, but so far I don't see any differences. Defunct businesses are still there and missing places are still missing. I'm talking about places that have been changed for 3 or 4 years. I don't see any changes in the roads either.
Bottom line - definitely buy a Garmin if you're looking for a GPS system but if you have one, don't waste your money on this update.
A Fine Update for Your Garmin GPS August 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I puchased this update for my Garmin StreetPilot 2720. After readin gthe reviews on the 2008 upgrade I decided to wait until this one came out - and glad I did.
The update added many of the new roads and highways around my area. I bought my GPS back in 2006 so there were many additions. It not only included the major highways but also some minor streets and avenues around my own city.
And since I live in Florida - the theme park capital of the world - it was nice to find several alternate routes to use to get the parks without having to travel the dreaded I-4.
All in all a great update for your GPS - although when you do install it, give yourself some time. Upgrading my unit took roughly 2 hours. I give it 4 out 5 simply because of the length of time it took to upgrade and it seems a bit pricey for this upgrade.
