There is no way these 2 way radios will carry 8 miles, I went less than a mile and could not hear the other person. As for a toy for the grandkids they work just get. They use them around the house. They work great. I went to order another set for the other grandkids and now they are unavailable.

I purchased these a month ago, and contrary to other reviews, have not had any problems with them (including battery life)! They don't have all the features of the larger ones, but for their size, I feel that the quality and basic features are very good.
I love how they come with a dual charger, and I especially like the single rechargable Ni-Cd AAA batteries included, instead of a pack, so you can replace them at any time with others!
I would recommend these to other buyers!

i bought one set of these with 125 pepsi points. i saved more points to get another set and they are not available with points now??? that is upsetting to me. they are still for sale for money but not points. unfair to pepsi customers!!! m. witt

I bought these for my kids instead of one of the flimsy toy walkie-talkies. They absolutely love them. They may not have the range of some of the higher priced models, but who cares? They work MUCH better than the toys, the price is right, they're compact and well-designed, and they look and feel like the real deal (a big plus for the 6-8 year old set). If you're looking to buy your kids some walkie-talkies, you can't go wrong with these.

Got mine in the mail about a week and a half after I ordered them. Good for close distance but I was lucky to get 8 blocks without them cutting out. Great for children in really small neighborhoods, but other than that, I would NOT recomend these for any other type of business/entertainment.
